As kids we’d play games like Follow the Leader
or Simon Says
and many other games where we blindly follow whatever commands we have been given. However, many of us want to walk in power with the Lord but for the most part we are asking many questions when it comes to following the Holy Spirit whom He’s sent to lead us.
The next three points will remind us as to why we must learn to follow the Holy Spirit without questioning Him so much because He is Lord on the earth and the Counselor that The Father sent us after Jesus returned to the right hand of power.
The Holy Spirit will guide you
First, Jesus Himself promised what the Holy Spirit would do with and for us when He has come.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. KJV
But then that’s not enough, because we don’t usually like to follow anyone who doesn’t have vision. If you go back to the companies you’ve served or the people you’ve worked with, the ones you followed always had a vision of where they were going, and the Holy Spirit already knows all things because He is part of the God-head and knows everything the Father knows. His role though is to reveal the Son to us.
The Holy Spirit will pray through you
Second, the Holy Spirit knows how to pray for you and through you. Jesus commanded that ‘men ought always to pray and not faint.’ And though it’s great to pray in your own understanding did you know that the Holy Ghost is here to help you pray things you don’t even know.
In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; NASB
The Holy Spirit is the Anointing
Third, if you’re a Christian and you’re not walking in intimate fellowship with the Spirit how can you ultimately share His power and do great exploits? You need to know who this Holy Spirit is as your companion so you can stop walking in the intellect of your soul and start walking by the Power of God like Jesus did.
Acts 10:34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
But you might be saying that walking with the Holy Spirit is not that big a deal, you’ll get by just fine. My question to you would be why go around without power if the One with the power is sent to dwell with you so you can walk in victory in all things? The Holy Ghost has been sent to anoint you.
Luke 24:49 “And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Is The Holy Spirit for You too?
Even Paul knew the importance of walking in power, and this is why he admonished everyone he met to receive the Holy Ghost.
Acts 19:1 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when a you believed?”
They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
3 So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”
“John’s baptism,” they replied.
4 Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues b and prophesied. 7 There were about twelve men in all.
This is nothing new. Jesus commanded His own disciples to receive the same Holy Spirit before He left them here on earth and the Book of Acts records the day the Holy Ghost came to earth for all to have access as the Father willed. The Holy Spirit is your ultimate life navigator. If you’ll follow Him and obey His direction you’ll be living a life of power and triumph over all your circumstances because He will warn you and lead you into places you would never go on your own. Follow the Leader.

P.S. If you want to learn more about walking with the Holy Spirit, I highly recommend you grab a copy of ‘The Baptism of the Holy Spirit‘ by Gary Keesee, a small book that will remind you of why the Spirit was given and how to ultimately walk in the power already available for you to walk a life of victory.
