Think Like A Coach, Not A Player Only

Most players think primarily of themselves and how they can win. However, coaches hold a bigger picture and think first about the whole team and how much value each player brings to it. Coaches understand where to place each player based on their strength. Players like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Reggie White (The Minister of Defense), Joe Montana and Jerry Rice, are great, but coaches help create synergy within a team. Great coaches like Lou Holtz, Phil Jackson, Pat Riley and Tommy Lasorda brought teams together to win again and again and again because they understood the value of each player on their teams.

Players are important but without a coach who understands their value it’s tough to create synergies to the point of repeat championships. Today, I challenge you to think more like a coach, for then you’ll value the team even more and what your colleagues bring to the table.

This week my focus has been on your value because you matter, and you must increase your value to the team by doing what every great leader does. Gain knowledge, skill and of course don’t hold it to yourself only. Share what you know and help others go to the top with you.

Enjoy your weekend, and I’ll catch you on the next episode.
